I have many passions in life and one of them is quilting. The others are reading, knitting,
crochet, cross stitching exercise and being a mom which are all precious tyes to me.
This blog will be about all of these things but mainly about quilting and how it is tied into my life.
The above wall hanging was designed by me and published into a pattern called Homespun Memories.

My blog is also about my Nifty Fifty Quilting swaps which are 50 state quilt block swaps that I started organizing over 10 years ago when my husband was going through depression. It helped me through a very difficult time. We have swapped over 70,000 quilt blocks during this time with many stories that traveled across the country along with our state quilt blocks. Our groups also make charity quilts for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Breast Cancer Ribbon Washcloth Give-Away

This is the first give-away on my blog.  I thought it was an interesting idea when I first read about the Blog Hop Party on the Quilting Gallery.

I love knitting washcloths or dishcloths!!  They are easy and fast to work up.   There is a great website called Knitting Pattern Central that has free patterns for Dishcloths. This website has patterns to suit anyone's interest including hobbies, sports, holidays, animals and houses.


These are 100% cotton knitted cloths which can be used as either washcloths for the bath or dishcloths.  I make them every year for my Mom for Christmas.  She uses them as dishcloths.  She loves them especially since you can place a dirty one on the top rack of her dishwasher and they come out sparkling clean.


 My sister lost her mother-in-law Madeline to Breast Cancer in 2010.  My sister was very close to her and I chose to make her one of my favorite patterns which was an Angel washcloth to comfort her during her loss.  One of the things that Madeline always told her grandchildren was to take comfort from the beautiful sunshine whenever you are feeling down.  So I chose to make them the yellow Sunshine washcloth. This pattern can be found on another great free pattern website called Designs by Emily.  This website has another one of my favorite patterns which is a Heart.  There are so many patterns to fit any occasion.  My son is being commissioned in the Army this spring and I made him the Army Eagle one.  

So I have decided to give-away a couple of my hand knitted dishcloths.  I decided that since our Nifty Fifty Quilting websites support Breast Cancer Awareness that I would knit up a Breast Cancer Ribbon for my give-away.  I tried finding a pattern for the ribbon everywhere online and was unsuccessful.  So I designed a pattern myself.  Here are photos of the Breast Cancer Ribbon Washcloth/Dishcloths that will be given away.

    My mother just turned 91 and she's a 42 year breast cancer survivor. She had her mastectomy back in the dark ages of breast cancer treatment. She has truly been an inspiration to me and just goes to show that this disease is curable. Thanks for all the hard work you've done for breast cancer awareness.

    what a nice giveaway, if I win could you send it internationally for me? my best friend back home in Denmark just completed 5 rounds of chemo for breast cancer, she's a year younger than me so 33 and a new mom, she finished the treatment and they didn't find anything now, but she still needs to have surgery and then 25 rounds of radiation in january.... I sent her a pink ribbon bed quilt for christmas!

    I am impressed by your ribbon dishcloth. I am a plain knitter but would like to learn something new. Thanks for the websites with all the instructions. I would pick the varigated but love them both.

    I love the solid pink one. I used to knit cotton dishcloths and loved using them. This year I am making owl pincushions and needlecases for my quilting buddies.

    I love knittd wash/dishcloths - I can't knit so I love it when my niece makes me some! Your breast cancer cloths are lovely - I would love to win either one of them, and would gift it to my SIL who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer right now. One of the gifts I'm making this year is zipper bags with an embroidered panel inside that says "Save the Tatas" (lol) - these will go to all the women on her side of the family :)

    This is trully a very touching giveaway. Thank you very much. I have a friend that is dying from cancer now. I also lost a sister and a brother from cancer. Although it wasn't from breast cancer, it still was a bad way for Them to die.I miss them very much. I will be happy to have either washcloth and if I win, I would love to give it to my friend.I think she would appreciate knowing that there are people out there that care.     I have a couple of crochet wash/dish cloths. I LOVE them. I try to give my kids and grandchildren crafted gifts every year. I was giving the grandkids quilts every Christmas, but not this year. This year the little ones get growth charts. Quilted blessings, Nita

    Thank you for the giveaway and free pattern info. I am a breast cancer survivor and can relate to how important these little gifts mean to those undergoing treatments. I just picked up knitting again after 30 years. Now I can add another place to spend money besides the quilt shops. Love to quilt but am rediscovering the serenity of knitting. Merry Christmas.

    I LOVE these! Good job for making your own pattern! I'm impressed. I love knitting and have not been able to for 2 years when the CTS was unbearable in my last pregnancy. I have no strength now and hope to be getting surgery to correct it. My aunt lost her battle to breast cancer, so these ribbon washcloths are sentimental to me.

    I remember knitted washcloths as a child. They were lovely and lasted forever and got so soft.
